So, we have a new database, and it is as real as it gets. Acland’s Video Atlas of Human Anatomy does not come with a content warning for librarians who eat lunch and then try to learn about what their abdominal cavity actually looks like.
The Video Atlas images are direct video recordings of real human anatomic specimens. The cadavers used were not stiffened or discolored by embalming. Their tissues retain the color, texture, and mobility of the living body.
Surprised librarians aside, it is an amazing resource. It contains three-dimensional depictions of dissections without preservation techniques that alter the appearance of the body. It’s recommended as an adjunct for learning anatomy as well as re-learning clinically relevant anatomy for specific courses and rotations. Check it out! Librarians and other soft sciences, proceed with caution.
