What is the All of Us Research Program?
Part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), All of Us Research Program is building a diverse health database of over 1,000,000 people from across the United States. The data from a diverse group of participants, including people and communities often overlooked in medical research, create opportunities for researchers to improve understanding of health and disease by studying the effects of biology, environment, and lifestyle on health.
What data is included in the All of Us Research Program dataset?
The All of Us database is a part of the NIH's Precision Medicine Initiative, which endeavors to understand how a person's unique biology, environment, and lifestyle can determine effective disease prevention or treatment.
What is Precision Medicine?
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), precision medicine is "an emerging approach to disease prevention and treatment that considers the unique genes and environment of each patient."

Disclaimer: Indigenous Data Gap and the Importance of Data Sovereignty
While striving to be comprehensive, diverse, and inclusive, the John A. Burns School of Medicine Health Sciences Library acknowledges that the All of Us Program data currently lacks adequate representation of Indigenous communities and other racial/ethnic groups. This disclaimer addresses this data gap and emphasizes the critical importance of data sovereignty when working with Indigenous populations. We want researchers who work with this dataset to understand that the dataset does not appropriately represent all communities. Please use it with care.
