JABSOM Library: Library Updates

Match Day 2021!

Truly, we are SO excited for you to start the first year of your lives as practicing physicians. Many of you are staying here in the islands with us which is great, because we get to be your librarians for longer! But some of you are going to the mainland and we have some advice for you.

Generally speaking, they wear a lot more clothes. This is a natural consequence of not living in paradise and eventually you'll adjust. You should also be prepared for the fact that some people DO NOT REMOVE SHOES UPON ENTRY. When entering a home, don't forget to check other people's feet. Try not to show your alarm if you encounter this bizarre practice. Most alarming, a lot of these people are going to be snobs about SPAM. If they give you any stink eye about your SPAM, just remember that those people haven't had the opportunities you've had and this is your chance to introduce them to musubi.

Now, for some more specifics. If you're moving to...

Southern California

The good news is you can keep your slippahs! The better news is, you get In 'N Out! Order the animal style fries and think of us.

Seattle

To blend in with the natives, you'll need closed toed shoes (I'm sorry but this is your new reality), at least two different Nalgene bottles secured by carabiners to your Timbuk2 messenger bag, and an expensive fleece. Also, and this is key: NO UMBRELLAS. They are a sign of weakness and the locals will feed you go the Fremont troll.

Minnesota

Thoughts and prayers.

New York City

We get it, you're cooler than us now. No need to rub it in.
